The archives on this site reproduce the text of the original posts but the further back you go in time, the more you will see that some pictures no longer come up. That is because the pictures on this blog have never been hosted on the same site as the text. They have always been linked or hotlinked off other sites -- usually from major newspapers.
But newspapers take their pictures offline after a while so that they can no longer be accessed online by this blog or by any other site.
Since some pictures that I think are pretty good have thus been "lost", I have put together another set of archives where ALL the pictures have been permanently restored (i.e. the text and pictures are both hosted on the same site, so if you see one, you will see the other).
The big problem with posting the archives concerned, however, is finding a reliable host. Webhosting is a strange business. They all make great claims of reliability but in fact most of them are "off the air" quite a bit. My solution to that is to post the set of archives concerned in several places, in the hope that at least one will always be "up". So the archives are currently hosted HERE and here. Once a set of uploadable archives is created, it is a minor matter to upload them to different sites. So if you are trying to trace a picture that is missing from this site, keep trying the different hosts above until you find one that is working at that time.
